Recommended Reading for Leaders and Emerging Leaders in Transition

The Fifteen Commitments of Conscious LeadershipA new paradigm for sustainable success – Jim Dethmer, Diana Chapman, & Kaley Warner Klemp

• This is a great book for leaders who want to change from the inside out, who are committed and willing to be bold and take their leadership in a new direction. It certainly opens you to new possibilities to lead. I bring some of this to my work with others because it helps shift perceptions and points of view that may be causing stagnation or denying their incredible worth, value and talent being expressed in their leadership.

Becoming A Conscious LeaderHow to Lead Successfully in a World That’s Waking Up – Gina Hayden

• Leading yourself and others in a new way means looking at how you lead now, who you are and what is required to lead into the future. Well here is a book that helps you explore how this is possible by examining what other leaders are doing in the conscious space and more importantly acts as a guide for your journey on this path with great questions, processes and possibilities.

*Theory U, Second Edition, Leading from the Future as it Emerges – C. Otto Scharmer
*Leading from the Emerging Future – From Ego-System to Eco-System Economies – Otto Scharmer and Katrin Kaufer

• *Both of these books take you on an incredible learning journey that has impact on you personally first as you work your way through the U model and rigorously apply it to your own work, leadership and world view. I have been through MITx’s “Transforming Business Society and Self with U.Lab” twice and “Leading Awareness-Based Systems Change – “How to Sense and Actualize the Future” that are Otto’s way of sharing his work to help shape shift and create ways to handle the present and future leadership challenges and to see how to do leadership differently. Going through the U process is both powerful and transformative and the application of these tools is exactly what is needed to handle disruptive change and lead from what wants to emerge. (As of March 2018, Otto has released a “pocket guide for Theory U” called “The Essentials of Theory U”  – a bit more accessible and a way to more easily implement it in your work, life and social environment)

The Code of the Extraordinary Mind10 Unconventional Laws to Redefine your life &Succeed on Your Own Terms – Vishen Lakhiani
• As the book states it offers new insights on ways to think in new ways, discover what rules might be holding you from living an extraordinary life with some fun questions and ways to shift who you have been to who you see yourself being.

You Are the PlaceboMaking Your Mind Matter – Dr. Joe Dispenza
• We often believe that we don’t have the power to change our behaviors, elevate our thinking, or shift life-long patterns and that we have to live “that way”. By exploring our conditioning, the expectations we have and the meanings we put on our experiences we begin to see that we can actually change the neural nets because our brains have plasticity. This is a practical guide to complex scientific information and another way to create changes from the inside out.

Managing Transitions – Making the Most of Change – William Bridges – During my 20 year corporate career we underwent three mergers and acquisitions. This book became my handbook in handling the people and processes as we moved through the many stages that take place in re-building, re-organizaing and transitioning people in and out of organizations. Written in 1991 it still has validity for 2018 and beyond.

The First 90 Days – Proven Strategies for Getting Up to Speed Faster and Smarter – Michael D. Watkins -A valuable insight into what to do and not do during the transition period of a new role you accept resulting from a merger or acquisition, a promotion or a brand new job.
